SUMMARY
Manage the day-to-day operations of the financial accounting department at Williams & Williams. The Assistant Controller will be responsible for managing the general ledger, financial statements and budget for the Company with direct oversight by the Controller.
ESSTENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
The Assistant Controller will provide the day-to-day management of all accounting related activities and contribute to the strategic leadership of the accounting department and its interactions with other departments. The Assistant Controller will be a proactive advocate of streamlining processes, maintaining strong communication with other departments and delivering timely and usable financial information to management.
SPECIFIC DUTIES INCLUDE:
Oversee and direct accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance activities for the organization.
Approve and analyze all general ledger transactions and preparation of financial statements along with reconciliations with oversight from the Controller.
Monitor journal entries on a daily basis and look for items that need investigation.
Prepare or oversee preparation of all reports required by regulatory agencies.
Conduct special studies for management.
Partner with management to ensure that finance and accounting ramifications of preliminary transactions are fully understood.
Monitor company expenditures in accordance with company fiscal policy, monitor and project cash flow.
Monitor A/R & Cash Collections, e.g., will review amounts invoiced and follow-up on outstanding balance by contacting sales department or contacting seller directly.
Monitor Escrow balances and oversee reconcilements on escrow deposits.
Review check batches prior to issuance of payments.
Work with the Controller in providing and directing procedures and systems necessary to maintain proper records and to afford adequate accounting controls and services.
Analyze all accounting procedures together with other statistical and routine reports.
THE CHARACTERISTICS AND EXPERIENCE INCLUDE
Several years of financial leadership at a real estate management firm; including the management of financials, consolidated reporting and budgeting; or at least five years of public accounting experience (Big 4 preferred) with increasing levels of responsibility.
Experience managing growth and increasing demand for information and results.
Thorough understanding of GAAP standards with proven experience.
Strong organization, communication, and team building skills.
Possesses the strong intellect, sound business sense, judgment and ownership mentality that are necessary to function in a key leadership role.
Ability to build relationships, marshal resources and shape decisions in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Must have advanced knowledge of computer technology that includes ability to use a dashboard reporting system for senior management on a daily basis. Microsoft Dynamics SL & Microsoft FRx or equivalent experience required including report writer.
Ability to operate standard office equipment; compose reports and correspondence using good business vocabulary and proper grammar and construction; perform intermediate mathematical calculations involving fractions, decimals and percentages; maintain a variety of manual or computerized logs and filing systems; compile data into meaningful order.
Will have extensive contact with customers, the public and the community, and is to conduct relationships in a manner that will enhance the overall marketing effort of the firm.
Will be called upon from time to time to participate with community organizations and in community projects.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Assistant Controller will have supervisory responsibilities over the general ledger, accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelors degree in Finance or Accounting or related experience. CPA and a minimum of 5 years experience at a Supervisor level or higher in a real estate organization with at least $20 million in revenues, or at least 5 years experience in a public accounting firm.
